Woolmore Primary School
A new school in the heart of the Blackwall Reach / Robin Hood Gardens Regeneration Masterplan provides 700 new school places, and creates new jobs for the local area.
Located adjacent to a major road, the four-storey building form is designed to create a distinctive yet protective street frontage maximising the open landscaped play area within the site, while simultaneously improving the visual amenity for neighbouring residential developments.
The building is divided into two blocks along the axis of the glazed atrium; a teaching block and a flexible administrative centre and community hub.
Within the teaching block the classrooms are centred around a naturally lit atrium, providing visual connection between the different year groups. A series of bridges connect the classrooms with amenities and allow opportunities for cross year group interaction.
The communal halls are located in the second block accessible to all students from the main atrium. Additional shared spaces on the third floor and roof terrace encourages a variety of activities and open learning opportunities.
“It’s motivating and inspiring to work in a new, purpose-built school.”
