Victoria Sky Gardens
Woking Gateway will be a significant new development at the heart of the Woking town centre. The proposal brings together a mix of uses including retail, commercial, community facilities and residential accommodation within one integrated development that sits comfortably alongside proposed new builds and public realm revitalisation, as part of the greater Woking town centre regeneration.
With 80% of the world’s population now living in urban areas, the quality of urban environments is more important than ever. The town landscape made up of mostly single-function grey infrastructure can be hard, dirty and congested, restricting the quality of life for those who live and work there. This ultimately leads to towns and cities which are neither resilient nor sustainable.
By contrast, living infrastructure – trees, parks, roof gardens, vertical gardens, and so forth – are multi-functional. They offer us working landscapes, natural means of managing water flow and filtration, improved air quality, greater biodiversity and air cooling. More importantly, green spaces encourage communities to evolve by creating places to exercise, to socialise, to work and play.
By re-developing the landmark Woking Gateway site into an urban oasis – a place where people can co-exist with the natural environment through their everyday lives – the scheme will not only signify a new way of living but become an exemplar for urban regeneration.
