Boutique residential development regenerates river corner and provides 16 new units in Wandsworth.
Located on a corner site adjacent to the river Wandle, to the north a former industrial building soon to be redeveloped to a residential complex, and to the south is a traditional Victorian terraced row.
This boutique development proposal comprises 16 one and two bedrooms units cleverly configured to have minimal impact on the adjacent residences while creating a more unified streetscape.
This has been achieved through graduated massing with a three storey street front, and four – five storey river front. The street elevation is white brick, and features a rhythmic pattern of full height bay windows creating depth and variation to the façade in keeping with the Victorian terraces. Ground floor apartments can be accessed directly from the street ensuring an active residential frontage.
The rear block is clad in a dark timber and relates in height and scale to the adjacent approved residential development. Apartments in this section also respond to the river with balconies and terraces positioned to face the view. An extensive river edge regeneration plan is proposed including a series of planted gabion walls that not only provide an improved site edge condition, but will also help regenerate this former industrial waterway.
