Designing Schools for a Digital Future
See the short film about our work on schools of the future
Today, 60% of children starting school are likely to work in a job that has yet to be invented. City populations are rising fast putting pressure on sustainable communities, infrastructure and schools. What will future schools look like? And how could the education landscape adapt to deliver the right skills for the next generations, and the ever-increasing pace of technological innovation?
Architecture Initiative is working with digital entrepreneur, Ian Livingstone, the Aspirations Academies Trust and the Education Funding Agency to create the new Livingstone Academy in London, an innovative mixed use school for the digital age. The project will challenge the way we deliver education and provide a new paradigm for education-led mixed use urban development. The first Livingstone Academy will be built in Aldgate, East London. The urban location presented challenges that required innovative design solutions. The Livingstone Academy will be fully operational by 2019.
The film outlines the genesis of the project, as well as documenting our work with the Aspirations Academies Trust and a group of sixth form students at City Tech in Islington to explore the idea of education for the next generation.
