PUTTING YOUNG PEOPLES MENTAL HEALTH needs AT THE HEART OF DEVELOPMENT
Integrating a residential and school development to create a vibrant, mixed-use community that achieves excellence in urban design and sustainability.
It is our practice ethos to optimise and promote the reinvention of brownfield sites across London, particularly those where there is an opportunity to provide public benefits such as education facilities, sports and play areas, urban greening, alongside high-quality community housing . This type of mixed-use development is critical to the successful and sustainable future of London.
The masterplan design puts a much-needed purpose-built new special educational needs school for local children at the heart of the community. Located in the London Borough of Hounslow, Wings Academy run by Orchard Hill Multi Academy Trust will accommodate 90pupils ranging from 11 to 19 year olds focusing on Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs (SEMH).

Our approach to the design of the SEMH school is to screen it as far as possible from external environmental interferences including the busy Hanworth Road, the neighbouring Gurdwara temple and adjacent industrial estates. The residential blocks are wrapped around the perimeter creating a protected space at the heart of the site for Wings Academy. The configuration of the external play areas, the MUGA and habitat areas creates generous separation distances to the new residential homes.
124 high quality apartments will be constructed on two sites that sit to the north and south of school, 44 of which will be affordable homes. There are also significant enhancements to the surrounding public realm and streetscape including new trees and urban greening.
The project, a joint venture between A2 Dominion, McLaren Living and McLaren Construction is set to start onsite Summer 2024 with completion of the school due September 2025.
