Often due to the lack of vision, laziness and impatience of architects, planners and developers, precious heritage buildings are being bulldozed in favour of soulless, identikit developments with no link to the communities they serve.
When redeveloping a site, existing buildings are a key resource, not only for sustainability – conserving resources, reducing carbon emissions and embodied energy, extending the building’s lifespan – but in retaining and enhancing an area’s identity, solidifying its sense of place, and unleashing lost potential.
Where other practices and planners see complexity, we see opportunity, drawing upon years of experience in utilising underloved, overlooked buildings as a precious raw material, reimagining places to thrive in line with both their past vision and future potential.
