Kingston Community School
Kingston Community School is an education-led mixed use development in the heart of Norbiton that will provide a new 420 place primary school together with 19 new residential units. The proposal represents an important opportunity to enhance this under-utilised, yet prominent corner site. This mixed use proposal demonstrates the regeneration potential for the area through high quality design.
The proposed development is split into two distinct parts; the primary school which forms a linear block parallel to the train line, bordered by a landscaped outdoor play area to the south on Station Road, and the corner building fronting Coombe Road which signifies the ground floor school entrance and provides access to the 19 residential units above at levels one to five.
The school design takes its lead from the built context of the area, with a vertically accentuated brick façade providing a residential scale to the building. Set back against the train line to the street frontage allows maximum play space for pupils and ensures a soft landscaped outlook with playful group rooms cantilevered in the tree canopy.
